MAY’S MONTHLY MEETING:

We always begin at 7:00 pm with an “open hive” discussion.  You’ll find us at the outdoor apiary (on the St. James property to the left of the buildings). This month during ” hive open”  Guild member Allison Buttenheim will talk about the new Warre Hive installed this spring.

At 7:30 we will move inside for  4 exciting brief presentations!

Presentation #1 – FORAGE FOR BEES IN PHILADELPHIA

Doug Sponsler – Affiliated with Penn State will share information about a research study he is doing in Philadelphia. His study will identify the specific sources of forage for bees during the course of the year.  Thanks to Kirk Wattles, Bees and Trees Committee Lead for connecting Doug with the Guild!

Presentation #2 – FLOW HIVE-GENERAL INFORMATION AND MYTH BUSTING

Laura Hart, Guild Treasurer, and flow hive keeper will review basic information and separate fact from fiction!

Presentation #3 – SWARM CONTROL – IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR!

James Romanchek, Guild Secretary will review the basics for swarm control and field questions from the group.

Presentation #4 – MAKING SPLITS – YES IT IS EASY TO DO!

Suzanne Matlock, past President will cover popular and easy methods for splitting your hive.  Questions, of course, will be welcome.
