I’ve been keeping bees in Philadelphia since 2006. I started because I saw an observation hive at my daughter’s school and became enchanted. The bee fever has only gotten worse since then. In 2022 I joined the great resignation and left my job as an analyst to keep bees full time. We’ll see what happens.

I was one of the founders of the Guild and I currently serve as the president of the board. I am trying to put the Guild on a professional footing and to make it possible and even profitable to be a beekeeper in Philadelphia. We’ll see how it goes.

My company is Beekdaddy LLC and I offer the following services.

Beekeeping Services for Clients

If you want some bees in your yard, garden, or bonnet give me a call. I can keep your bees on a contract basis if you want to keep all the honey. If you have a larger space with good access and don’t want more honey than you can use and share with family and friends we can work something out that involves less or no money. Having a lot of bees can be a challenge though.

Swarms

I will catch swarms in either Mt Airy, Germantown, North Philadelphia, Wyndmoor, Wyncote, Elkins Park, Manayunk, Roxborough, Layfayett Hill, Flourtown, Glenside, Jenkintown. I don’t do cut outs. If we have an existing relationship I will consider helping you with wasps or hornets but usually I think they should be left alone, particularly if they’re not threatening anyone.

Honey

Beekaddy Honey is pretty darn good. Most of my bees are in the far northwestern corner of Philadelphia near the woods along the Schuylkill. My spring honey is generally very light, floral and sweet. It crystallizes readily. It is very good. I also often get summer and fall harvests which tend to be darker and more complex. Also very good. I extract by hand with minimal filtering.

Speaking and Events

I can do events and presentations but who knows what I’ll say on any given day. During the warmer months, and some of the colder months depending on circumstances I can bring an observation hive full of bees so you can catch bee fever too.
