August 9 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

This is part 5 of our 7 part series of beekeeping classes. These classes will take you through a year of beekeeping and let you see what it’s like and whether you want to or can do it. If you’ve already got bees these classes should help you understand how we keep our bees.
This class will cover the late summer. We’ve probably harvested some honey. We’ve probably made it through the dearth. Now we focus on getting ready for the winter. We’ll explain what’s going on, how to think about managing it, and some of the things you can do. We have recorded all of the classroom sessions (Zoom) and apiary sessions as we have proceeded. If you sign up for the class you’ll have access to those sessions.
The classes meet on Wednesday evenings on Zoom at key junctures throughout the beekeeping season. We’ll go over the topics you need to know about at that time of year and discuss what is going on with the bees now. Every class will be followed by a day in the apiary. These will usually be on the Saturday immediately after the class but beekeeping if very weather sensitive so we will have to be a little flexible.
We currently have apiaries in Germantown and South Philadelphia. We will schedule these as close to the date as possible. Hopefully we will be able to put everyone in the apiary closest to home be we want to put a reasonable number of people in each apiary.
These are the dates for the rest of the classes:
- September 20: Autumn
- November 8: Winter
