The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild Board Of Directors held their monthly meeting on September 5, 2024. It was an efficient and lively discussion and here are the takeaways:
Grants
The Guild submitted a grant for $10,000 to engage with an organization called the
Keystone Development Center who will help the Guild start a co-op. The Guild itself will need to come up with $2,500 to complete the contract with the Keystone Development Center. For context, the Guild is interested in creating a co-op called the Philadelphia Honey Cooperative (PHC). This will be a producing and marketing cooperative dedicated to supporting local beekeepers and honey production in the Philadelphia region. The Board voted unanimously to approve the $2,500 expenditure for this grant.
2025 Volunteer Opportunities
David, the President of the Guild, is not running for another term because he’s busy perfecting his karaoke skills—he’s aiming to break a world record for most dramatic rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” So, if you’re enthusiastic and can handle a little less musical flair and a lot more Guild leading, we want you for 2025! Please submit your statement of interest to info@phillybeekeepers.org.
The Board is also looking for volunteers to fill the positions listed below. We don’t require experience, just motivation and dependability are things we are looking for, experience is a bonus! Please submit your statement of interest to
info@phillybeekeepers.org.
Open volunteer positions for 2025:
- Minister of Propaganda
- Board member
- Committee Members:
- Education committee
- Event Planning committee
Apiaries
Most of the Guild’s apiaries are doing great thanks to Eric our board member and apiary lead. We need to find a better way to communicate the different management efforts being done to each hive but other than that the bees are doing great.
Meeting adjourned @ 21:09
