On Sunday Sept 15th, we put up our yellow tent on Germantown Avenue and spent the day talking about honey bees and showing off the girls in their observation hive. Our volunteers (which could be you next!) had the chance to share tastes of our honey with festival attendees. The variations in honey flavor profiles surprised people! After sampling, our visitors were happy to support the Guild with their wallets. We are so grateful for everyone who chooses to do so, as it helps us support our mission that includes educating people on how to keep healthy bees.
We get it, local raw honey is more expensive than what you see at the grocery store. Plenty of what is on store shelves isn’t pure honey! But we guarantee our honey is the real thing. When you purchase honey from us at one of our events, the Guild takes a small commission that funds our organization. This goes towards our classes, paying guest speakers to come to our meetings, permits to hold our events, and even food safety certifications or licenses. The rest of the purchase price of our honey is sent directly back to our beekeepers who use it for everything from buying new packages of bees to paying for labels for their jars. It’s a great way to support local agriculturalists and get something sweet out of the deal too!
At Honey Fest on September 7th, we had almost 1300 guests visit us at The Wyck House. With similar visitor count last year, we’ve routinely hosted one of the most well attended single day events there. However, there was a big difference in money this time around – we more than doubled our sales totals. We really felt the love that day! At Chestnut Hill Fall for the Arts Festival, around 10,000 people came out to enjoy Germantown’s rich offering of foods and artists. There, we did 50% higher sales than we did the year before. It was busy, fast, and fun. We can’t thank you enough for coming out and supporting our organization. The community here in Philadelphia really puts their money where their mouth is – though it might be tastier to do that with your honey!
