This year we’re offering our classic Introduction to Beekeeping class as well as an ongoing class for folks who are starting or continuing their Beekeeping Journey.
We also plan to offer workshops in more advanced topics, and those will be announced as we develop them. Stay tuned to this page as we update it with new info.
The Long Course – Beekeeping in 7 parts
This is our basic Introduction to Beekeeping class. It spans the entire beekeeping year from March to December and will expose you to every aspect of urban beekeeping.
Your Guild BeeLover membership is included when you take this class and on completion you will have the option of purchasing up to two nucleus colonies from the Guild the following spring.
The course has one lecture only class in March to give you an overview of bee biology, behavior, and beekeeping practice.
Subsequent lecture classes will be offered on Wednesday evenings and last an hour or two. Following every lecture class we’ll have an apiary session where you get hands on exposure to the topics we discuss on Wednesday.
You can buy a ticket to the entire course on this page or you can purchase tickets to individual classes on the class event pages.
A list of all the individual sessions with some details is here.
Workshops
We plan to run some special topic workshops this year. These are under development at this point, but will be announced as we develop them.
If you are enrolled in one of the main classes you’ll get a 10% discount on these workshops.
Please Vote for the workshops you’d like to see.

The other class
This class is for folks who have taken our Intro class (or other intro class elsewhere) and who are starting or continuing on their beekeeping journey. The course does not have a set curriculum.
The class will be led by Guild President Dave Harrod with support from other Guild members. We will have frequent virtual meetings for class members only where we discuss what is going on and address your specific questions.
During the course of the season (April – October) we will have 6 hands on apiary sessions that we will schedule to meet the needs of the group. You’ll also be welcome to attend any of the Long Course classes above.
Your Guild Hobbyist Membership is included in the cost of the class. If you’re already a member we’ll upgrade or extend your membership.
The Nucleus Option
If you take either of our main classes you’ll have the option of purchasing a nucleus colony from the Guild.
Long Course Attendees will be able to exercise this option the following season and The Other Course attendees will be able to exercise it this spring.
These nucs will be made from Guild or or Guild Member colonies and supplied with a purchased queen.
We will send out a notice when we have more details.
