Mirza Tihic – Guild Monthly Meeting – Third Thursday
February 19 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
This month’s Door Prize for in person attendees will be a 3 lb package from Mark Antunes of Honey Hill Farm!!!!
Mirza Tihic is a beekeeper and faculty member at Syracuse University in the College of Professional Studies and adjunct professor of entrepreneurship with the Department of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises (EEE) at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.
His research focuses on the intersection of entrepreneurship and disability. His research aims to expand the traditional barriers related to small business services and include the complete entrepreneurial ecosystem of people with disabilities and veterans. An interest of Tihic is understanding the broader social network and its role in influencing entrepreneurial decisions given the disability-related challenges they face.

He has recently initiated a project studying what actually drives us as beekeepers, and how we think about success beyond just honey yields. Please take the survey!
His survey below asks questions other research has never bothered with—like how our connection to nature and the bees themselves shape what we do, and what thriving really means in this work.
It would be very helpful if you were to take the survey either before or after the meeting (you can always stop and continue the survey anytime): https://syracuseuniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0CKrvvt9Cf5gTQO
The survey covers beekeepers from backyard hobbyists to commercial operations, across multiple states and countries. I’m hoping to publish findings that actually reflect our reality, not just what academics think matters.
Please come with your questions and thoughts on this fascinating but little explored topic.
Beekeeping Focus
This month we’re going to be talking about boxes. One of the decisions you need to make when you start beekeeping is what kind of boxes you want to use. Your equipment will be a big investment and there are a lot of choices, not all of them obvious.
We will have a panel of experienced beekeepers who will talk about the pros and cons of various types of equipment with a focus on the humble bee box.
We meet at 7pm at St. James School. 🐝
