Hi beekeepers! It is in fact August and what’s with this beautiful weather? Time to put on your formic while the daytime temps are below 85°.
Don’t miss Eric Malcolm speaking on Zoom this month for our meeting.
Some of us are just back from EAS and all pumped up with inspiration. If you’re ever feeling the need for more beekeeping in your life going to one of these conferences, including the State meeting in November, is a great idea. The image above shows hive bodies that have been painted by various organizations and are sold to the highest bidder.
It’s really time to sign up for selling your honey and volunteering at Honey Fest.
Honey Kitchen – extract your honey, there’s still time!
Honey Consignment – Sell your honey! There’s still time! You will also be volunteering to help at Honey Fest.
Honey Fest – come to Honey Fest! One day only this year!
My Latest Beekeeping Misadventures…
I tried ApiGaurd Thymol treatments on my hives this year. I took off all the supers, which made some of the hives very congested. I learned a lesson about leaving a booming hive empty space. Again.
I also lost a few queens which I wasn’t expecting with Thymol, but so be it. I don’t mind losing queens this time of year if the colony has eggs to make a new queen. Late season queens are often the most productive the following year.
It seems like many of the hives will make more honey this year. So that’s good.

Finally
I’ll be heading off into the sunset after this year. It’s been great to be the vice-president and president for the last four years. I don’t think I’ve fully achieved my goal of making the Guild a more sustainable and professional organization, but I think we’ve moved in the right direction. I hope that whoever takes the lead next year can build on the work we’ve done and I’ll certainly be around to help.
